VFD for Fans and Ventilation

The fan-relevant functions the documentation publishes are specific: riding through voltage dips, holding a pressure or flow setpoint, staged speed schedules. Building-wide HVAC application scope is covered on the HVAC VFD page.

The AUD32's documented fan mode

The AUD32 documents an energy-saving fan mode, with the saving its product material states for that mode.

Documented functions that matter on fans

Two more documented points for fan specifications

The AUD32 slim series — whose documentation names HVAC among its industries — publishes up to 16 speed settings and an LCD dialogue interface. Its anti-jitter ride-through keeps the drive running at low frequency through instantaneous power failures of up to 2.35 seconds, the same class of grid event the EV510's instantaneous-stop function addresses on the performance series. The EV510 also publishes the dual overload classes used across the performance range — G type at 150% of rated current for 60 s (180% for 3 s) and P type at 120% for 60 s (150% for 3 s) — the printed figures a fan specification is compared against. The fan-relevant functions are documented per series — EV510, AU720, AU320 and AUD32.

Sizing a fan drive

The published figures a fan specification is read against include the fan motor's rated current and the published overload classes above — G type at 150% of rated current for 60 s (180% for 3 s) and P type at 120% for 60 s (150% for 3 s) on the EV510 and AU1000 documentation. State the fan type (centrifugal, axial), the motor rating, and whether the setpoint will come from a sensor signal or a staged speed schedule in your enquiry, and ask for the applicable model and class against that data to be stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Can the drive ride through a short power dip on a fan?

The EV510 documents an instantaneous-stop ride-through function for momentary power loss. If catching an already-spinning fan is a requirement, state it in the enquiry and ask for the applicable model for that function to be stated in the quotation.

Do I need an external controller for duct pressure?

The documentation does not print that answer as a yes or no for a specific installation. Built-in PID is documented on the EV510 — described as realising a process control close-loop system — and a built-in PID software function is named in the AU320's product item. State your sensor type with the enquiry — 0–10 V and 4–20 mA input classes are documented on the pump lines — and ask whether an external controller is needed for your setpoint arrangement.

What does the AUD32 fan mode claim?

The AUD32 product material states an energy saving of more than 35% for its fan energy-saving mode. The claim is documented for that series and mode, with that scope.

Which page covers building HVAC systems?

The HVAC VFD page covers building HVAC systems — fans as part of air handling, chilled-water pumps and cooling duty.

Send us your motor rating and application

Tell us the motor power, the supply voltage on site and what the drive will run — pump, fan, machine tool or lift. Minimum order is 1 piece on the main catalogue lines, as published on the platform store; ask for price and lead time for your model and quantity to be stated in the quotation.
