Application — Lifting

VFD for Cranes and Lifting Equipment

Lifting is one of the industry solutions named in the company's own platform profile. Crane duty concentrates the hardest drive requirements — full torque at standstill, controlled lowering, brake coordination.

What hoisting demands

A hoist drive is specified against starting torque at standstill, brake coordination and controlled lowering. Travel motions add gentler requirements: smooth acceleration to avoid load swing, and precise creep speeds for positioning.

Documented capabilities that answer

Crane and hoist installations are engineered systems: brake control logic, limit handling and safety functions are configured per installation, and the documentation publishes no certification evidence for any drive as a certified crane safety system. Send the crane's duty class, motor data and control arrangement with your enquiry and ask for the configuration for the application to be addressed in the quotation.

Closed-loop behaviour is documented for the AU720 and EV510 series — see the closed-loop VFD page. Crane control-gear accessories are not part of this catalogue.

Hoist and travel: two different drives in one crane

A crane concentrates two drive duties with opposite characters. Hoisting needs torque at and near zero speed and coordination with the brake; travel and slewing need gentle acceleration and precise creep speeds. The published figures give both ends of that comparison: the AU720's FVC figures publish 0 Hz/180% starting torque, as do the EV510's for its G type, with the EV510 adding ±5% torque control accuracy, and the AU720's SVC figures publish 150% at 0.25 Hz with ±0.5% speed stability. The AU720 publishes both modes on one platform. Which mode a given motion is configured with is an installation decision — state the crane and the motion in your enquiry and ask for the mode to be addressed in the quotation.

Braking arrangements

The performance series publish over-voltage/over-current stall control and quick current limiting, and each series publishes its braking-unit arrangements (built in at documented power points on the AU720; structured by power band on the AU400). For a crane enquiry, state the lowering duty (load spectrum and lowering time share) and ask for the braking configuration to be addressed in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Which control mode for a hoist?

The published FVC figures — 180% starting torque at 0 Hz on the AU720, and on the EV510 for its G type, with ±5% torque control accuracy on the EV510 — are the comparison points for hoist duty; the SVC figures (150% at 0.25 Hz on the AU720) for sensorless duty. For the mode for a given motion, ask with the installation details in your enquiry.

Does the drive control the brake?

Integrated brake control is documented in the AU1000 line; ask for brake sequencing for a crane application to be addressed for the installation in the quotation.

Send us your motor rating and application

Tell us the motor power, the supply voltage on site and what the drive will run — pump, fan, machine tool or lift. Minimum order is 1 piece on the main catalogue lines, as published on the platform store; ask for price and lead time for your model and quantity to be stated in the quotation.
