Application — Machine Spindles

Spindle VFD for Engraving and Carving Machines

The Ausenist catalogue documents spindle duty in two places: the AU320, listed for engraving machines, and the EV200, whose documentation names wood carving. A third documented item is a parameter, not an application record: the AU720 publishes a high-frequency output mode of 0–3,200 Hz.

The documented spindle routes

AU320 for engraving machines. The AU320's product material names engraving machines among the application examples it gives for the series (alongside smart small water pumps, for other machine classes). The AU320's published envelope is 0.75–11 kW, V/F and open-loop vector control, output to 400 Hz. Its page is here.

EV200 for wood carving. The EV200 documentation names wood carving in its application list, and publishes a compact narrow body — installation size reduced by 30% against the older products. Its model table runs 0.4–5.5 kW across single-phase 220 V and three-phase 380 V inputs.

High-frequency output. The AU720 publishes a high-frequency mode of 0–3,200 Hz — the subject of the high-frequency VFD page — while the EV510's vector range tops out at 500 Hz.

What to state in an enquiry

Matching the drive to the spindle

Two nameplate numbers are printed for spindle motors: the motor's rated frequency and its rated current at the working frequency. The published output envelopes are: AU320 to 400 Hz, EV200 and EV510 to 500 Hz, and the AU720 high-frequency mode to 3,200 Hz. On braking, the EV200 documentation states braking units are built in above 3.7 kW (not built in at 0.75–2.2 kW), and the AU321 adds a built-in braking unit over the AU320 baseline — check the selected model's braking arrangement against your stop-time expectation.

Finally, a mounting note: the EV200's documented format includes independent air ducts and side-by-side mounting. A sealed format also exists in the catalogue: the AU8000, with a fully enclosed structure and an IP65 rating.

For model-level ratings for a specific spindle motor, send the motor's rated frequency, its rated current at the working frequency and its power with your enquiry, and ask for the applicable series and model against them to be stated in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Which drive for a 2.2 kW, 400 Hz spindle?

The AU320 (2.2 kW single- and three-phase-input rows) publishes a 400 Hz-class output envelope, and the EV200 (2.2 kW rows in both input classes) publishes an output envelope to 500 Hz. Send the spindle nameplate with your enquiry and ask for the current and control mode for it to be stated in the quotation.

Do I need vector control on a spindle?

Open-loop vector control is a documented control mode of the AU320, alongside V/F control. For a given spindle duty, state the duty in your enquiry and ask which documented mode applies to it.
